Sulfitobacter sp. NAS-14.1. This strain was collected in the surface waters of the North Atlantic Ocean and isolated on seawater plates with 10mM dimethylsulfoniopropionate (DMSP), aerobically, at 22oC. This organism is an open-ocean (Atlantic) representative of the Roseobacter clade, and is used as a model organism for studying the marine sulfur cycle (DMSP degradation).
