Photographic postcard depicting Hiawatha about to sweep Minnehaha off her feet and into his canoe, [s.d.]. Hiawatha, a young male Indian standing in his canoe, is wearing an Indian feather headdress and has a piece of cloth wrapped around his right leg just below the knee. Minnehaha, the young female Indian, standing on top of a tree log, is wearing a bead headdress, bead necklaces, and a long dress. A squirrel sits on the log near the couple. Legible writings include: "[...] railway", "Happy New Year", "Hiawatha and Minnehaha", "n[...], Tro[...], to an[...], ques[...]".; "The Hiawatha Legends was first published in 1856. The myth of Hiawatha and other oral legends are derived from the story telling in the wigwams. The American poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow made the falls famous in The Song of Hiawatha (1855), a poem based on Indian legend." -- unknown author.
