Extrasolar Giant Planets and Stellar Magnetic Activity

In order to explore the effect of a new variable governing the magnetic activityof stars, viz., the presence of giant planets, we propose a set of snapshotobservations of a carefully selected sample of stars using XMMNewton.s imagingdetectors for a total of 135 ksec. Our sample includes stars with extremelyclosein Extrasolar Giant Planets (EGPs), with orbital radii less than 0.15 AU,as well as a control group of stars with EGPs at relatively farther distances(orbital radii greater than 2 AU).
