Map ORR Geologic Formations Vector Coverage

This vector coverage depicts the geologic formations and of the Oak Ridge Reservation. This detailed geologic map was created by researchers walking transects across the Oak Ridge Reservation and recording the geology. The bedrock geology exposed in the Reservation is composed entirely of sedimentary rocks that range from Early Cambrian to early Mississippian. This stratigraphy formed as part of the early Paleozic drift (ocean-opening) succession. Nine major stratigraphic units have been recognized previously in the Reservation: Rome Formation, Conasauga Formation, Knox Group, Chickamauga Group, Reedsville Shale, Sequatchie Formation, Rockwood Formation, Chattsnoogs Shale, and Fort Payne Formation.
