Transcriptional profiling of microglia in the injured brain reveals distinct molecular features underlying neurodegeneration

We applied whole transcriptome analysis of microglia acutely isolated at different timepoints after a cortical stab wound injury to gain insight into genes that might be dysregulated and transcriptionally different between males and females after cortical injury. Overall design: Total RNA was extracted from the FACS-sorted microglia that collected from freshly dissociated cortex at the site of cortical stab wound injury or from the equivalent site at the contralateral non-injured hemisphere of adult Cx3cr1CreER mice on days 1, 4, 7 and 14 following stab wound injury, in two biological replicates, using Illumina Hiseq4000.
