Wildfire Smoke and Society Survey

This repository contains data and accompanying metadata from a public survey focused on wildfire smoke. The survey targeted three groups: (1) English-speaking adults across the United States (n = 3,000); (2) English-speaking adults residing in western states that routinely experience heavy wildfire smoke (n = 500); and (3) Spanish-speaking adults in those same western states (n = 500). Fielded between May 5 and June 6, 2022, the survey included approximately 100 questions covering topics such as audience reception, comprehension, and behavioral response to information about wildfire smoke. It also incorporated embedded experiments designed to test how variations in message content and format influence risk perceptions, information comprehension, and protective intentions.
