The Midwives Board was established on 1 December 1915 and was responsible for the registration of midwives before the responsibility was transferred to the Nurses Board (VA 3144) on 1 March 1929. The register continued until 1994 when the Nurses Board of Victoria (VA 4611) came into operation. Registration of midwives post-1994 is subject to further research.
