Replication Package: Understanding the industry perception of ethics in the software development lifecycle

This repository contains the supporting material for the manuscript titled "Understanding the industry perception of ethics in the software development lifecycle", currently under revision for the ResponsibleSE, colocated with ESEC/FSE 2026. Repository Content: File 1 - Survey_Ethics.pdf: The complete survey instrument used in the study to investigate how practitioners perceive and are confident in operationalizing ethics in software development. It consists of 4 sections, namely: Section A: Consent and Identification; Section B: Personal and Professional Profile; Section C: Ethics Practices and Self-Perception in Software Development; and Section D: Ethical Competency Set for Software Professionals. File 2 - Survey_Ethics_Responses.xlsx: This worksheet presents the anonymized survey answers collected during the study. It is composed exclusively of the question covered in this study: Q1-Q10 and Q17-Q20. When the original language of the response was not English, we used OpenAI to generate the English version. File 3 - Q1_codebook.xlsx: The detailed inductive coding for RQ1. The worksheet presents all the 72 responses, the key terms retrieved from each response, the matched categories identified for each response, the primary category, and finally, the theme. When the original language of the response was not English, we used OpenAI to generate the English version.
