Anaerobic digestion are often hampered by accumulation of volatile fatty acids due to imbalances between acidogenic bacteria and methanogens. We aimed to investigate the recovery from acidified conditions in acetate fed anaerobic digesters. Amplicon sequencing with the Illumina MiSeq platform was used to identify the microbial community composition at different time points in reactors of low (4mM) and high (100mM) acetate concentration.
