The First Man: A Simulation

A phenomenological simulation — a thought experiment staged in prose — tracing the emergence of consciousness, proto-religious behaviour, and the first encounter with death through the imagined interiority of the earliest self-aware human. Written in present tense and sustained close third-person, the essay argues that the first human responses to uncertainty were not belief systems but participatory responses to an observed arrangement. It proceeds through a sequence of first encounters: with awareness, with predation, with the sun, with death.
