RNA-sequencing was performed on eye tissue samples from four populations of Poecilia mexicana. Populations were sampled from a nonsulfidic surface site, sulfidic surface site, nonsulfidic cave site, and sulfidic cave site. We were primarily interested in quantifying differential gene expression between cave and surface populations to investigate early-stage eye regression in the troglodytes compared to their surface conspecifics.
