Hexbins are a mesh of connected hexagons commonly used for aggregating and summarizing spatial data. For this Esri layer created in 2015, distance between the centers of each hexbin is 25 kilometers. Hexagons were generated from icosahedral discrete global grids (Sahr et al., 2003) using the open source software DGGRID Version 6.1.
