The present study provides information on the development of the teaching staff of German universities and colleges from 1865 to 1953. The material tables are based on a personnel index of all university teachers at the institutions of the respective German Reich territory. The study focuses on the development of university science and its personnel problems from the middle of the 19th century until the World War I.
