Effect of host´s genetics and maternal microbiota on the gut microbiome during early mouse development

Here we describe the postnatal effects of the maternal microbiota and host´s genetics on the gut microbiome during early mouse development. A cross-fostering experiment involving two genetically different mouse lines was conducted and 16S rRNA gene sequencing of mouse colon was performed. Our results showed that at an early stage of development the bacteria an individual acquires from the mother have a higher impact on the gut microbiome composition, than the genetic make-up of the individual.
