VPRS 13957 Register of Applications, Bushfire Relief

After bushfires in 1898 and 1901, lessees of Crown land were able to apply for relief funds to remedy the damage caused by fires. This relief could be in the form of grass seed (for the regeneration of pastures), wire (for the replacement of fencing) or building materials.This series records both the applications and the decisions made regarding them. Details given are a number, the date of the application, the applicant's name and address and the location and extent of the land. The details of the decision might include the reason for any refusal, if the application was withdrawn and if successful, the orders given. Orders for grass seed were given as the type and amount, for wire as the weight and amount and for building materials, the monetary value. Where aid was granted, a notation was made on the applicant's record in the relevant rent rolls that aid had been received.Details of repayments made by successful applicants may be found in VPRS 13985.The P1 consignment of this series was previously registered as Unit 106 of VPRS 458 / P Applications Registers, Land Act Unknown.
