A microbiota-directed therapeutic food for severely malnourished children evaluated following acute nutritional resuscitation

Complete anthropometric recovery from severe acute malnutrition using standard therapeutic inventions is rare; rather, children treated for severe acute malnutrition (SAM) often are left in a state of moderate acute malnutrition (MAM). Here we conduct a randomized controlled clinical trial to investigate the efficacy of a standard dietary treatment for SAM in 12-18-month-old Bangladeshi children followed by a 3-month-long treatment with a Microbiota-Directed Complementary Food (MDCF) versus a ready to use supplementary food.
