NRS-12853 | Half yearly reports

Under a circular dated 3 July 1913, District Engineers were required to furnish reports on the condition of water supply works at intervals of not less than six months. The reports contain details of: estimated population supplied and consumption; number of premises connected; the quantity of water consumed by railways and other industries; the number of meters in use; excess water rates; the condition of plant, buildings and reservoirs; catchment area and purification particulars of additional reticulation; works in progress or completed; and general comments on the condition and availability of water. Prior to 1920 information also contained the cost of works, revenue, and payments to the Crown. Also included in this series are reports of inspections of catchment districts made to the Director General of Public Health from 1927-32 and forwarded to the Public Works Department; these reports consist of printed questionnaires on the catchment population, stock, industries, fishing, shooting and trapping activities, and any other relevant details relating to the management of the catchment area. This series also contains some original correspondence received and copies of letters sent concerning the provision of water services, the latter often appearing to have been in response to parliamentary approaches.
