Dataset of the first Global LGBTQI Happiness Survey

This dataset contains the anonymised individual-level database from the 2019 Global LGBTI Internet Survey, a global cross-sectional, non-interventional, web-based survey of consenting adults aged 18 years and older who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or intersex. The survey was designed to examine the associations between demographic, socioeconomic, socioecological, psychosocial, attitudinal and behavioural factors, on the one hand, and HIV-related risks, self-reported HIV status, stigma and discrimination, access to health services, and HIV care and treatment outcomes, on the other. The questionnaire includes a core module for sexual and gender diverse participants, a second module for participants who have sex with men, and a third module on HIV-related stigma for participants living with HIV. The accompanying data dictionary documents variable names, labels, definitions, response categories, recoding rules, and a number of derived analytical variables and composite indices. It may not be requested, used, or reused for commercial purposes, for aggregation into larger datasets, for linkage with other individual-level datasets without prior written authorisation, or for the training, fine-tuning, benchmarking, or development of artificial intelligence or machine-learning systems. Any attempt to identify or re-identify participants, directly or indirectly, is strictly prohibited. Applicants must submit a motivated research proposal, demonstrate affiliation with a recognised university, research institution, or enrolment in a graduate programme, and sign the standard confidentiality and data-use declaration available for download. Data access, if granted, is limited to the approved project only and may not be shared, transferred, redistributed, or deposited in any third-party repository without prior written permission. Submission of a request does not imply automatic approval; all applications are reviewed on a case-by-case basis, and the data custodians reserve the right to refuse access.
