Global Populism Database

Global Populism Database v2.1 measures the level of populist discourse in the speeches of 269 chief executives (presidents and prime ministers) from 77 countries across all continents. The dataset covers 361 government terms and includes 1,388 speeches, mostly between 2000 and 2025. Each speech is coded manually by one or two coders using the "holistic grading" (Hawkins 2009) technique. The v2.1 files extend the original database and should be used. The 2019 and 2022 files are maintained here for transparency and record-keeping.
