Finer-Resolution Long-Term Mapping of Plant Functional Types at 30-m and 500-m Resolution for Earth System Modeling

This dataset provides a global plant functional type (PFT) map spanning 1985–2020, with updates every five years prior to 2000 and annual updates thereafter. The PFT dataset is constructed by integrating multiple high-resolution remote sensing products, reducing dependence on empirical assumptions commonly used in PFT fraction estimation and improving the description of subgrid vegetation heterogeneity relative to existing global datasets. It is intended for applications in land surface and earth system modeling and land use and land cover change analysis across regional to global scales. Due to the large data volume, this deposition includes only the PFT data for the years 2005 and 2015. For the 500 m product, global coverage is provided as NetCDF files tiled at 5° × 5°, packaged into tar archives for each 30° × 30° region, and named following the convention RG_{latN}_{lonW}_{latS}_{lonE}.PFT500m.2005_2015.tar. The 30 m product is provided for a single 5° × 5° region as a representative sample. Data for additional years or regions can be provided upon request.
