Block Group-Level Data, 1970: San Diego, California

This data collection is a block group subset of the Census of Population and Housing, 1970: Summary Tape File 1A for San Diego County, California. Block group complete count (100% long form) tabulations are available in 55 population and housing tables. Population tables include tabulations by total population, age, sex, race, marital status, relationship to household head, family type, and combinations of these. Housing tables include tabulations by housing units by number of rooms, persons per room, number of units with basement, value of owner occupied units, contract rent, plumbing facilities, and crowded units by type of household. A list of all table cell counts (variables) is available for these data tabulations. The San Diego block group data file was extracted and processed by the Social Science Data Collection (SSDC) staff of the University of California, San Diego from Census Bureau data processed by DUALabs, Inc. and archived at the Odum Institute. All counts in 1970 Summary Tape File 1A are considered final. 1970 Summary Tape File 1A is also known as 1970 Summary Statistics File 1A, and 1970 File A First Count Tallies: Block Groups and Enumeration Districts. The Census Bureau did not produce printed reports for 1970 Summary Tape File 1A. The UCSD Geisel Library maintains two copies of printed block maps in Block Statistics: San Diego, Calif. Urbanized Area (SSH Docs US Stacks C 3.224/5:970/23). Block groups can be identified by the first digit of the block number used in the maps. Block group "1" will contain any block numbered 101-199, block group "2" will contain any block number 201-299, and etc.
