The cytoxicity of selected smoke constituents was valuated with the NRU assay. EC50 (defined as the concentration of the constituent inducing 50% cytotoxicity) values are calculated from dose response curves with concentrations ranging from 3 µmole to 10 mmol. The contribution of selected constituents to the overall cytotoxicity observed with the particulate phase (PP) or gas/vapor phase of the mainstream smoke (MSS) is calculated and expressed as %.
