A simplified global coastline polygon for easy downloading, packaging and processing. Provided is a ~500m (0.005 deg WGS84) shapefile that reduces the 1.1GB global OpenStreetMaps (OSM) land polygon to a dataset that is less than 10MB, while retaining the general shoreline of larger islands. Code is available for further information on the processing of the 1.1GB global OSM coastline to 500m or ~100m (0.001 deg WGS84) including all islands (144MB) (not provided here).\nLineage: 1.1GB global land polygons download from https://osmdata.openstreetmap.de/\nProcessed with R's terra package https://github.com/rspatial/terra GPL3\n\nNote, the original OSM data was licensed ODbL and should be considered when using the processed dataset, which required a Creative Commons License to be published in this portal.
