Search Practices and Search Strategies with BTX

The practices of BTX users in searching for information with the help
of the BTX system.

Topics: Both a survey and participant observation were conducted.

1. The questionnaire: private or occupational BTX use; problems in the
search for information; self-assessment of operating certainty and
intensity of BTX use; BTX offerings used; preferred search strategy;
behavior after unsuccessful search; ´BTX expert´ in household;
available directories of search possibilities; development of certainty
in dealing with BTX equipment; typical experiences and recommendations
for improvement of BTX.

2. Participant observation: three self-selected and five prescribed
search tasks were to be solved by the respondent in the presence of the
observer. In this the search strategies, the operating errors and the
result of the search were recorded.
