Data and code for: Global monitoring of wildlife mortality through participatory science in near-real time

This record contains the documentation, data and code to both launch our R Shiny application, and recreate the R analysis code supporting the manuscript “Global monitoring of wildlife mortality through participatory science in near-real time.” We developed an open-source R Shiny application for querying, mapping, visualizing, and downloading iNaturalist observations annotated as dead in near-real time. The application supports live iNaturalist API queries, retrospective analyses using a fixed Parquet archive, taxonomic and conservation-status filtering, spatial queries, temporal summaries, interactive maps, and reproducible downloads. The deposited data include fixed snapshots used in the manuscript case studies, derived spatial covariate of the human modification index and query metadata. iNaturalist observations are opportunistic participatory-science records. Counts and percentages in this archive describe observations annotated as dead and should not be interpreted as population-level mortality rates. The Puma concolor range layer used in the manuscript was obtained from the IUCN Red List and is not redistributed because it remains subject to IUCN access and reuse conditions. The archive provides source, access, version, and processing information needed to obtain the corresponding layer.
