There are several methods
to assess the function of the autonomic
nervous system. One method that is easy, low-cost, and acceptable by the
scientific community is heart rate recovery (HRR). Different pathological
conditions have been related to the development of autonomic dysfunction. The aim of our study was to evaluate the
relationship between heart rate recovery (HRR) and HRR-derived parameters and respiratory,
biochemical, and hematological condition in controlled patients of the medical
service of the National Institute of Respiratory Diseases, Mexico City. All
participants were subjected to anthropometric and respiratory evaluations.
Fasting blood samples were taken before participants performed a 6-minute
walking test (6MWT), and the blood analysis included chemical and hematological
tests. After the 6MWT, heart rate (HR) was recorded at rest during the last 5
min. and was used to estimate HRR and relative HRR (rHRR) at the first and
second minutes. Data base of nutritional, serum biochemical, blood cells counts, six-minute walking test measurement of controlled patients is present as data base reservoir of a pilot study title "Biochemical and hematological relationship with the evaluation of Autonomic Dysfunction by Heart Rate Recovery"
