Pundamilia linkage map sequence data of F2 cross

Building a high-density genetic linkage map for a Lake Victoria cichlid cross revealed strong synteny with Oreochromis niloticus. The high marker resolution allowed improving the Pundamilia genome assembly and further permitted the estimation of recombination rates along the genome, both powerful resources for future work in this model system of ecological speciation. The linkage group with a major QTL for sex determination contains a well-known vertebrate sex determination gene (amh) within the mapping interval. Segregation patterns of markers on this linkage group strongly suggesting an XY sex determining system, prompting future investigations of sex chromosome evolution in the mega-diverse African cichlids.
