The high-value patent database for the parallel shaft gear industry mainly includes invention patents and utility model patents related to parallel shaft gear manufacturing from global patent databases. It retrieves and conducts scoring evaluations on patent data via a self-developed algorithm, which helps users understand the intellectual property (IP) filing status and geographical layout of the parallel shaft gear industry. By comparing the patent data of various enterprises in this industry, one can grasp the technological innovation capabilities of each enterprise. Additionally, understanding the technological development trends and core technologies of the parallel shaft gear industry can help enterprises avoid redundant R&D and intellectual property infringement.
The database is constructed based on the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), combining quantitative and qualitative analysis. Starting from the patent value evaluation methodology, the index layer divides the patent value index system into three first-level indicators: technological value, legal value and economic value. Each first-level indicator has corresponding second-level indicators:
1. Technological value indicators: number of independent claims, word count of the independent claim, remaining valid period (in years), number of patent family members, number of patents cited by the patent, number of times the patent is cited by other patents, number of participating inventors, number of technical fields covered;
2. Legal value indicators: patent type, number of pages in the patent document, number of invalidation requests filed against the patent;
3. Economic value indicators: number of transfer transactions, number of license transactions, number of pledge financing cases, patent award score, customs IP recordation score.
A three-dimensional matrix is established based on the first-level and second-level indicators. The corresponding index data for patent evaluation is obtained through patent interface data. The 1-9 scaling method (with 1 as the lowest score and 9 as the highest) is adopted to calculate the weight of each indicator, and the weighted scores of all indicators are summed to obtain the total patent score. Patents are categorized according to score intervals: 80–100 for high-value patents, 60–80 for important patents, and below 60 for general patents. This database provides technical references and guidance for R&D personnel of enterprises in the parallel shaft gear industry, and offers R&D decision-making support for related companies.
