Dataset for "Fiber-optic Observations Capture Wind Wave Evolution in Lake Ontario"

This dataset accompanies the publication “Fiber-optic Observations Capture Wind Wave Evolution in Lake Ontario,” published in Communications Earth & Environment. The ZIP file includes weather and water-level data (in .txt and .csv formats, respectively) from Station Olcott; WAVEWATCH III model outputs (in NetCDF format); and 10-Hz distributed acoustic sensing (DAS) data (in NetCDF format) from the Crosslake DAS Array at channels 2435, 2835, and 3235. These data were used in the moderate-wind and winter-storm event analyses. Except for the DAS data, all other datasets are publicly accessible. Weather data can be obtained from the Great Lakes Observing System through NOAA’s National Data Buoy Center at https://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/. Water-level data collected by NOAA’s National Water Level Observation Network are available at https://tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov/. Wind-field data from the National Digital Forecast Database, used to force the Great Lakes Operational Wave Model based on WAVEWATCH III, as well as the wave data, can be found on the Great Lakes Coastal Forecasting System website at https://www.glerl.noaa.gov/emf/waves/WW3/.
