The demand deposit component of M1 is defined as the total amount of demand deposits held by commercial banks and foreign-related institutions, excluding the U.S. government, U.S. and foreign depository institutions, and foreign official institutions. To avoid double-counting deposits that appear on the books of multiple depository institutions during the collection process, the demand deposit component of M1 excludes cash items in process of collection (CIPC) and Federal Reserve float. This is a Federal Reserve dataset hosted on the Federal Reserve Economic Data (FRED) database.
