Haemonchus contortus is a highly pathogenic parasitic nematode able to infect a large number of wild and domesticated ruminant species and is the most economically important parasite of sheep and goats worldwide. Adult worms are blood feeders that reside in the abomasum (stomach) and are approximately 2cm in length when mature. They are dioecious with single females typically producing several thousand eggs per day which pass out of the host in faeces and develop to infective larvae on the pasture. This sequencing study aims to improve the H. contortus draft assembly through utilising an existing Bacterial Artificial Chromosome (BAC) library catalogued at the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute (WTSI) under Haem_ends, with plate and clone prefixes of bHE. Each sample is a pool of 96 clones taken from a single 384well quadrant of the Haem_ends BAC library. Each sample has been tagged and the 95 sample combined into a single Illumina lane.
