The top of the figure shows the SNPs. A: HapMap Han Chinese population [15]; B: HapMap European population [15]; C: Echocardiography and Heart Outcome study (ECHOS) population. The strength of LD was determined by R2 statistics. The decrease in LD in the Han Chinese population probably reflects the previously reported recombinant breakpoint between rs4344 and rs4353 [12]. No such decrease in LD is observed for the HapMap European population and was also not observed in the ECHOS population. The ACE I/D polymorphism was not included in the figure as it has not been genotyped in the HapMap populations [15]. However, this polymorphism is located between rs4331 and rs4343, and is in high LD with these two SNPs [12].
