Autophagy is known to eliminate intracellular microorganisms or damaged organelles, control inflammation and suppress adaptive immunity. Although some evidence suggests a relationship between Porphyromonas gingivalis (P. gingivalis) and autophagy in periodontitis, the conclusions are not entirely consistent. Therefore, in order to investigate the intrinsic interaction between P. gingivalis and autophagy, we treat bone marrow derived macrophages (BMDMs) with P. gingivalis and use RNA-seq to determine the changes in gene expression that occur in bone marrow derived macrophages.
