Inclusion criteria for PD cases were age 21 years or older, diagnosis of PD according to UK PD Society Brain Bank criteria or according to movement disorders specialist assessment, and Mini-Mental State Examination scores >21 or next of kin present to provide informed consent. Exclusion criteria for PD cases were diagnosis of a blood or bleeding disorder, known hematocrit <30%, known active ulcer, or active colitis.
