File List WhiteFirInits.txt (MD5: 886cd1c1629a7ff0f2f042d5630b44ba) Description This Supplement includes initial values for all the parts of the model that need estimating, including the latent (unmeasured) tree sizes. Once the model is compiled, open the this file and click “Load Inits.” BUGS should display “Model is Initialized.” It is possible for BUGS to generate initial values for you using your priors, but because the priors specified in the first file are uninformative, they could be quite large or small and due to the complexity of the model the Markov chains might not converge. Therefore we recommend using these initial values to start with. Once you have loaded all these files, you can open the menu “Inference>Samples” and enter the names of the variables you want to track estimates for in to the Sample Monitor Tool. Then return to the “Model” menu and choose “Update.” When the Update Tool appears, specify the number of updates and click “update.” It may take a lot of updates to get good posteriors for this model! BUGS has a help system should you have any troubles.
