Both scGOSlcFOS and n3 PUFA dietary interventions affected the intestinal microbiota, immune system and to some extend the behaviour but with different outcomes. However, the data from the combination diet group is following the scGOSlcFOS pattern for some parameters and the n3 PUFA pattern for other parameters. All parameters taken into account one could say that together these dietary components create a balance; the best of both in a healthy situation. We here provide information about the effects of the combination of scGOSlcFOS and n3 PUFA on the communication between the gut, immune system and brain in a healthy situation and emphasize that not only individual components but combinations of nutritional components are important in the development of intestine and brain and the interaction between them.
