Alpaca Skin Transcriptome

The dataset examines Alpaca fibre characteristics, specifically genetic markers associated with colour. The dataset comprises 11 RNA-seq libraries (approx. 100Gb) generated from 3mm skin-punch biopsies of a variety of different coloured alpacas. Skin Transcriptome coverage: >10x Illumina; >30x SOLiD 5500 Numerous notes from visual inspection of animals detail the phenotype and this is combined with breeding records to develop a model of inheritance of colour in alpacas. The dataset also contains the results of chemical analysis of fibre, showing the amount and type of melanin present in the fibre.
