VPRS 1600 Register Of Documents Lodged

The Master in Equity was responsible for the administration of the Supreme Court in Equity as well as holding various other positions. In 1883 under the Judicature Act the position of Prothonotary of the Supreme Court (VA 433) was established to relieve the Master in Equity of the administration of matters not related to Equity. The Prothonotary later assumed responsibility for the Equity functions of the Master in Equity.This series contains the registration of documents lodged with the Court in relation to a matter before it. Details include the lodgment of the documents and their delivery out of the Court. For each document, the date of lodgment, the suit or matter, the person who lodged the documents, the purposes for which they were lodged (usually as evidence, exhibits or security), under what authority the documents were lodged (Decree, order or consent) and the date and description of the document are all details which are given. Details given for the delivery out of a document are the signature of receipt of the document, the date and the authority under which it was delivered out (usually consent or by Order of the Court).
