VIDA is a global health study to assess the causes and burden of diarrhoea in children under five and determine the effectiveness of rotavirus vaccine in sub-Saharan Africa (Mali, Kenya and The Gambia). Shigella spp. from children enrolled in this study have been isolated for whole-genome sequencing to allow genomic analyses and inform control and to follow up on work carried out in the previous Global Enteric Multicentre study (GEMS).
