Nitrogen Stocks and Fluxes Across Four FACE Experiments, 1996-2004

This dataset contains measurements of nitrogen stocks and fluxes from four Free-Air Carbon Dioxide Enrichment (FACE) Experiments from 1996-2004. The four FACE sites are the Oak Ridge National Laboratory FACE Experiment located in Oak Ridge, TN; the ASPEN (Rhinelander) FACE site located in Rhinelander, Wisconsin; the Duke Forest FACE (FACTS-1) site located near Chapel Hill, North Carolina; and the POP-EUROFACE site located in Tuscania, Italy. Measurements include biomass, nitrogen (N) concentration, productivity for wood, canopy, and fine root, leaf litter, and fine root mortality pools. Additionally, nitrogen uptake, nitrogen use efficiency, net primary production, maximum N content, mean residence time, and N requirement, retranslocation, and return are provided. These data were used to evaluate the responses of N use and cycling in plants and soils exposed to elevated carbon dioxide (CO2). Finzi et al. (2007) used these data to analyze patterns in nitrogen uptake and nitrogen use efficiency under elevated CO2. This dataset contains one data file in comma separate (.csv) format. Additional metadata are provided: one data dictionary and a file-level metadata file in comma separate (.csv) format.
