Pistil abortion is a common problem in Chinese local apricot varieties. Shajinhong apricot is one of the most important local cultivar in China. The competitions between nutrient distribution and flower bud differentiation induce pistil abortion have been reported, but few studies about the key regulatory genes or transcriptome sequencing of pistil development have been conducted in apricot. The objectives of this study were to identify the functional genes involved in pistil abortion of apricot and highlight the metabolic pathways related to this progress, and provide a useful reference for cultivation regulation and breeding in apricot.
