Bird sighting patterns and their relationship with environmental variables and atmospheric pollutants in the Strait of Gibraltar (2016-2025)

This dataset integrates avian observations, metereological variables, and air pollution levels in the Strait of Gibraltar, one of the most critical migratory bottlenecjs between Europe and Africa. The objective of the dataset is to enable the analysis of how environmental factors (climate and air quality) influence the presence patterns of different taxonomic bird groups. The dataset spans a period of nearly a decade (January 2016 - February 2025) and has undergone a cleaning, filtering and harmonization process. Dataset content: Avian data: filtered records from eBird, including unique taxonomic identifiers, scientific and common names, exact coordinates, and a functional classification into 8 categories. Metereological variables: daily data for temperature (mean, min, max), precipitation, atmospheric pressure and wind speed obtained from Meteostat. Air quality data: NO2 concentrations (grouped by time slots: morning, noon, afternoon, night) and PM10 (daily average) recorded at the Rosia Road station in Gibraltar.
