This series includes files relating to the planning of Civil Defence and the provision of Emergency Services in the event of nuclear or conventional warfare, reports on major conferences and exercises, copies of addresses, information supplied to members at Parliament, files concerning relations with the media and reactions of the Civil Defence Organisation to the media presentations, relations with the Commonwealth Directorate of Civil Defence, evacuation planning, the operations of the State Emergency Services in major floods and bushfires. Correspondence files from the Bush Fire Council have also been incorporated into this series.Additionally included are: forward estimates; syllabuses of training courses; minutes of committees; information supplied to members of Parliament; Commonwealth Equipment Support Working Party; reports of disaster operations, exercises, field days, operational visits to administrative divisions, and the Public Service Board; liaison with major government departments; meetings with heads of departments; organisational charts; Aboriginal, youth and community employment programmes; integration of the SES with the Bush Fire Brigade; relocation of the SES Head Quarters within the Sydney central business district; major insurance claims; staff files of senior personnel; publication of non-English language leaflets; crush syndrome, Granville rail disaster; and fodder drops during major floods. Also retained are examples of files concerning: the purchase and assessment of major disaster and rescue equipment; SS annual rescue equipment; and assistance given to community sporting groups eg.
