资源简介:
This file contains code and data files which replicate the tables in our manuscript, "Three-generation mobility in the United States, 1850-1940: The Role of Maternal and Paternal Grandparents," to be published in Explorations in Economic History. This paper estimates intergenerational elasticities across three generations, for both men and women, using a methodology that exploits the socioeconomic content of first names.

The title of each do files indicates which table it creates. All data files are thoroughly labeled.
The do files call a number of data files which are not posted. These files contain microdata from a 1% sample of the 1940 Full Count Census, with first names included, which was made available by IPUMS and ancestry.com. As these data are proprietary, we cannot post them here; however, they are accessible on a secure server at the National Bureau of Economic Research, and researchers wishing to obtain access to this server should contact us for details.
