This series contains Immigration Remittance applications and statement of refunds beginning in January 1857.Immigration Remittance regulations were adopted from 22 December 1848 by the Governor to facilitate the remittance of any sums of money which persons settled in the Colony to send their relatives, friends or others in the United Kingdom for the purpose of enabling them to emigrate to the Colony. (1) These remittances were received by the Clerks of Petty Sessions with sums received sent to Treasury. The regulations were updated on 20 March 1850 with an added schedule and further amendments made over the following years. (2)The application forms include Form A (Great Britain and Ireland) and Form B (United Kingdom). The forms contain the following information: Christian name and surname, age, whether husband or wives resident in the colony, trades or callings, where living, names and address of some persons of note to whom the references can be made respecting the emigrants, and amount paid to Government Immigration Office (amount applied to passage, applied towards Outfit and total).The Statement of Refunds Form includes the immigrant application form, letters from nominated person asking for refund, receipt for refund from the Assisted Immigration department, a copy of letters to the nominee and the original passage certificate. Front page includes registration number, deposit number and a statement of refund.Information differs on different variations of the forms over time and addition information may include letters and further comments may also be written on form.Endnotes1.
