Rm1021 sensitivity to SDS and beta-lactams

This project aimed to identify the genetic basis for differential sensitivity of Sinorhizobium meliloti Rm1021 derivatives to sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) and beta-lactams. Strains sensitive to SDS contained a nonsense mutation in a putative ABC transporter; the mutation is present in the reference 1021 genome but not in the 2011 genome. The mutation also resulted in increased sensitivity to phenazines.
