This study is the first to announce the full genome of a S. aureus isolate assigned to clonal complex 12. The strain is of particular relevance to food safety, as it produces staphylococcal enterotoxin B. In 2009, KLT6 caused an outbreak of staphylococcal food poisoning that involved 30 persons.
