Quantitative Data from a Mixed-Methods Case Study of Experiences in a Community-Based Ski Competition

This dataset accompanies the manuscript “Experiences of Middle-Aged and Older Adults in a Community-Based Ski Competition: A Mixed-Methods Case Study.” The dataset contains anonymized individual-level EEG frequency-band dominance indices and Profile of Mood States, Second Edition (POMS2) subscale T-scores collected from seven middle-aged and older men participating in a regional community-based ski competition in Japan during the 2023 winter season. Measurements were conducted at three time points: before the first competition run (Pre), immediately after the second run (Post), and before participants left the venue (Ret). The data are provided in a long-format CSV file, with one row per participant per time point. A separate codebook describes the variables, measurement procedures, data structure, and ethical and privacy considerations. The quantitative data provide complementary information about temporal psychological and neurophysiological patterns examined in the associated mixed-methods case study. They should not be interpreted as direct measures of participants’ experiences or meaningful leisure. Individual ages, age groups, competition rankings, item-level POMS2 responses, and qualitative interview transcripts are not included to protect participant privacy and comply with ethical and copyright considerations.
