High water levels on 20 May 2024 at 18:00 have been registered in the north of Sweden. Water levels are rising in two rivers, Torneaalven and Kalixalven, and the flood maximum is foreseen on 21 and 22 May 2024. The flood could affect critical infrastructure in the urban areas of Haparanda, Pajala, Overtornea and Overkalix. Copernicus EMS Rapid Mapping has been requested to provide initial rough estimate, flood extent, and damage assessment.
