Breastmillk microbiome sequecing from mothers with and without T1D

We conducted a longitudinal 16S rRNA gene sequencing study of milk from women with (n = 174) and without (n = 123) T1D, collected at seven timepoints from birth to 15 months postpartum. We analysed changes in alpha and beta diversity, and the differential abundance of taxa, in relation to lactation stage and maternal T1D status, to determine if T1D was associated with altered microbial succession, especially early postpartum when infant gut microbial seeding is critical for gut and immune system development.
